As a young undergraduate studying in a premier medical college in India, I was influenced to take up surgery as his specialization by his teachers in department of surgery at Kasturba Medical College Mangalore. There was always an urge in me to stay a step ahead of the rest and that has led to my keen interest in laparoscopy during my post-graduation. Even as my fellow postgraduates were trying to learn open surgery I knew that laparoscopic surgery is going to be the way almost all surgeries are going to be performed in the future and I am not wrong. Having trained with and observed several stalwards from field of laparoscopy in various workshops I attended I then decided to pursue excellence in field of minimally invasive surgery. I have come a long way from performing my first laparoscopic cholecystectomy (gall bladder removal) in June 2006 to performing basic as well as advanced laparoscopic surgery till date. Having performed over 100 gallbladder surgeries, over 150 appendectomies, over 100 lap hernia repairs, about 50 advanced laparoscopic procedures such as abdominoperineal resection for cancer of rectum, rectopexy for prolapse rectum, splenectomy, lap right colectomy , retroperitoneoscopy, cardiomyotomy for achalasia cardia over last few years speaks of the popularity of laparoscopic surgery and of the surgeon to do the same. Being a post graduate medical teacher it always keeps me updated with the latest developments in the field of laparoscopy. I have the distinction of having performed the first SILS (Single Incision Laparoscopic Surgery) surgery in Mangalore which boasts of six medical college and several reputed private nursing homes.
